There are some compositions in Francis Bacon’s works that aim the use of geometrical lines to define an architectural space almost like an invisible room that Bacon makes visible by drawing lines as in a comic book. I didn’t realize that until I read about it in an article in internet, I don’t even remember who publish the article or the author but after that it was clear to me that space behind the main figures in a composition from him.

Now I cannot stop looking at that empty space, that negative space in Bacon’s composition, sometimes it’s just the impulse of a corner made by only three lines and sometimes it’s something more complex with solid figures, pentagons or hexagons and furniture on them.

Francis Bacon
I was painting this small nude and I haven’t decide how the background will be done, sometimes I start a painting with no fixing idea of the final result, this was the case in this small painting, but then I remember Bacon’s composition and I thought that it was a good idea to show the space behind the model, even if it’s just a corner, three lines that run in one corner of the composition. I think that this small detail gives movement to the composition and gives more meaning. So I decided also to name it after Bacon, as an homage to his legacy and what we as artist gain from him and his compositions.
