100 days 100 galleries; Day 27: Plus One Gallery, London UK

Plus One Gallery was founded in 2001 by Colin Petit and Maggie Bollaert. Originally situated in Seymour Place, Marylebone the gallery moved to Pimlico Road in 2006 and enjoyed 10 years in this iconic part of London. Plus One Gallery relocated to the Piper Building (Fulham) in April 2018 to an ultra modern space, an exciting new venture that accommodates to our clients needs, we now run by appointment only making every visit a far more personal experience.

Carlos Fentanes (CF): In this era of ready made and Pop Art why choose Hyperrealism?
It seems that Hyperrealism is the opposite of this modern times, now everything has to be made as fast as possible.

Plus One Gallery (POG): (nothing)

Yes, I think that now everything has to be made as fast and possible and you have a plus if it can be industrialized.

Somebody ask me why choose Hyperrealism? and I had no answer too. When I was part of Galería Óscar Román in Mexico City I felt the pressure of rush: you have to create at least one work a month and I was very slow in my production, and I’m still very slow. It was not my decision; it’s the way I do things: I look at the progress and the try to correct what I’m doing and then look again and then correct again. It was a slow process and for me it was impossible to have a good work of art in the times the gallery wanted it. I don’t blame Plus One Gallery this time for not answering my DM, you don’t choose Hyperrealism, it choose you, the same as Abstract Art or Landscape your only option is to do the best of your style.
