Carlos Fentanes (CF): I saw your last post about Alex Face, it’s intriguing, a mix of pop and street art.
What’s your favorite piece of the show?
The gallery didn’t answer.

It’s day 45 and 16 Galleries had answer my comments a little more than one third, but in the first 12 days only one gallery wrote me back. The beginning was tough, I didn’t know what introduction can work, I started with the simple introduction of an artist: “Hello, I’m an artist and I wonder how can I submit my work to your gallery” or some variation of this, then I realize that this introduction doesn’t work, most of the galleries are not looking for new artists and they receive thousands of mails and comments like this. It’s important start the conversation not talking about oneself but to something that they are passionate about: an artist, a show, a style. It’s the first contact and you don’t want to be too aggressive, that’s going to cut any communication now and in the future. They need to know you first and then step by step you can start a relationship, it doesn’t matter if they like your work or not but to establish a relationship. Once they know who am I, then I start to put comments on their posts, very simple comments about a show or an artist, just to be present, maybe some day we can establish a business partnership but you need to work your clients with confidence.
Well this gallery is one more fail in my statistics, that’s important to know how to write the right comment but I don’t take it personal and I don’t know if they check their DMs or how they manage their social media accounts.
